The Philippines is a country of 7,107 islands, where every corner surprises with contrasts: ancient volcanoes sit alongside turquoise lagoons, and bustling metropolises neighbor untouched jungles. If you are visiting for the first time, it is easy to get lost in this diversity. We at Werdana Travel have gathered 15 key locations, without which an introduction to the archipelago would be incomplete.
1. Ifugao Rice Terraces (Banaue)
Why it’s worth seeing: These terraces, over 2,000 years old, are called the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” Created by hand by the Ifugao people, they are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our tip: Head to the village of Batad—here the terraces form a natural amphitheater. The best time to visit is from April to May (green sprouts) and from June to July (golden harvest).
2. Puerto Princesa Underground River (Palawan)
Why it’s worth seeing: One of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. You will sail on a boat through caves filled with stalactites and bats. Our tip: Book your tickets online in advance—the visitor quota is limited.
3. El Nido and the Bacuit Archipelago (Palawan)
Why it’s worth seeing: Karst cliffs, hidden lagoons (such as the Big Lagoon), and white sand beaches. This is the face of the Philippine “tropical dream.” Our tip: Take Tour A (lagoons and snorkeling) or Tour C (hidden beaches and Matinloc Shrine).
4. Kawasan Falls (Cebu)
Why it’s worth seeing: A three-tiered cascade with turquoise water in the jungle. Perfect for a swim after trekking. Our tip: Arrive at opening time (8:00 AM) to avoid the crowds. Be sure to try the local coconut dessert “buko.”

5. Boracay Island
Why it’s worth seeing: The famous White Beach with its fine sand and breathtaking sunsets. It is the ultimate destination for a relaxed beach holiday. Our tip: Look for secluded coves at Puka Shell Beach or try kitesurfing at Bulabog Beach.
6. Whale Sharks in Oslob (Cebu)
Why it’s worth seeing: A unique chance to swim alongside the largest fish in the world (up to 12 meters!). It is perfectly safe—these giants feed exclusively on plankton. Our tip: Arrive by 7:00 AM—the sharks are most active in the morning.

7. Taal Volcano (Batangas)
Why it’s worth seeing: The smallest active volcano in the world, located in a lake inside an ancient crater. Surreal landscapes. Our tip: Combine your trip with a visit to the thermal resorts of Tagaytay.
8. Vigan Historic Center (Vigan, Ilocos Sur)
Why it’s worth seeing: The only preserved 16th-century Spanish colonial town in the country, featuring cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages called “kalesas.” Our tip: Try the local garlic ice cream and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past.
9. Kayangan Lake (Coron)
Why it’s worth seeing: The cleanest lake in Asia with visibility up to 30 meters. It is surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Our tip: Climb to the viewpoint (150 steps) for the famous iconic shot.
10. Chocolate Hills (Bohol)
Why it’s worth seeing: 1,268 perfectly symmetrical hills that turn “chocolate” brown in the summer. A unique geological phenomenon. Our tip: Visit the main viewing deck in Carmen at sunset for the most spectacular angle.
11. Tarsier Sanctuary (Bohol)
Why it’s worth seeing: The smallest primates in the world with enormous eyes. They are endemic to the Philippines. Our tip: Do not touch them or use a flash—these animals are extremely sensitive.
12. Fort San Pedro (Cebu)
Why it’s worth seeing: The oldest Spanish triangular bastion fort in the country (built in 1565). The historical heart of Cebu. Our tip: Combine this with a visit to the Basilica del Santo Niño and Magellan’s Cross.
13. Tumalog Falls (Cebu)
Why it’s worth seeing: A towering horsetail waterfall where you can jump into a natural pool from a rope swing. Our tip: Siquijor Island is a place of power and mysticism. Stay here for 1–2 nights.

14. Small Canyon (Alcantara, Cebu)
Why it’s worth seeing: A narrow gorge with a turquoise river where you can swim and jump from the cliffs. Our tip: Rent a wetsuit—the water remains cool even in the heat.
15. Siargao Island (Surigao del Norte)
Why it’s worth seeing: The world’s surfing capital with the famous “Cloud 9” wave, as well as mangrove forests and the Sugba Lagoon. Our tip: Even if you aren’t a surfer, come for the boho-paradise atmosphere and the beach parties.
How to Plan the Perfect Route?
Don’t try to cover everything! For a first two-week trip, choose 2–3 regions. For example:
- Option 1 (Palawan): El Nido + Coron + Underground River.
- Option 2 (Visayas): Cebu + Bohol + Siquijor.
- Option 3 (Luzon): Manila + Banaue + Baguio/Vigan.
