Siargao Island faces the open ocean with its eastern coast, specifically looking out over an extremely deep part of it (the Philippine Trench of the Pacific Ocean passes nearby). Every day, the tidal current on the reefs surrounding the island creates a tidal wave, which is strongest in the southeastern part of the island. It is exactly here, near the settlement of General Luna, that the famous “Cloud 9” spot is located. Besides this one, there are many other surf spots in the waters of Siargao.
